    Description

Today I am offering one of Haui's most desirable Night Rain print designs,  originally printed in 1932. An excellemt example for any Shin Hanga Collection.
    What: Original Japanese woodblock print
    Artist: Hasui Kawase
Title: Rain at Maekawa in Sagami Provence
    Publisher: Shozaburo Watanabe
Date: Originally published in 1932. This is certainly a lifetime edition published from the original blocks by Watanabe, between 1947 and 1957. However, there are no Seals noted.
Seals: If there is a black 6mm seal, it was placed within a lication too dark to locate from even the closest inpsection. This was often an issue with the earliest lifetime strikes of this night design.  Because of this,  Watanabe switched to using a red 6mm seal at some point early on. Because of this,  and the quality of the colors and the sharpness of the impression, is likely an early lifetime printing.
Signatures:  YES! Hasui Kawase signed on the lower left front.
Measurements:  Large Oban print with deckled edges (as publushed by Watanabe) approx 10.5" X 15.5"  (the deckled edges make the measurements minimally variable).
Condition: This print is in Fine overall condition.  There is a small stain in the very upper right corner at the margin's edge. There are 2 very slight paper remnants on the back margin (likely from being hinge mounted into a presentation folder). There are some soft handling marks in the margins, and maybe a slight toning to the paper. There is a dealer number noted in pencil on the rear lower margin, 869. This print has never been framed.
