    Description

    Wonderful Prince Genji Triptych
This splendid triptych is by the renowned Utagawa Kunisada (Japanese, 1787-1865). Kunisada was also known at times as Toyokuni III. During his lifetime he was the most popular, prolific and successful designer of
    ukiyo-e
woodblock prints. His reputation far exceeded that of his contemporaries: Hokusai, Hiroshige and Kuniyoshi.
Handsome triptych depicting Prince Genji enjoying a pleasure boat ride in the company of a pair of beauties. The Prince holds a small fan while he relaxes leaning on a cushioned armrest. He smiles at the beauty standing in the front of the ship poling the craft through the water while the other beauty sits on a cushion to on the right. Two young girls dressed in Chinese costumes act as attendants, one manning the oar in the stern of the boat. A porcelain kettle sits on a warmer by Genji’s side. A small shelf above it holds a larger pitcher and cups. The small islands in the center of the lake are linked with a bridge. The shore is dotted with blossoming cherry trees.
This triptych offers a lovely view of the classic pastime of boating during the Edo Period in Japan. It would be an impressive accent to any room in your home or office.
This triptych would be a superb choice for any collector. It is truly a classic image from the golden age of
    ukiyo-e
. Matted and framed, this would make a stunning presentation by itself or as an impressive addition to an arrangement with other prints. It is one you will be proud to display in your home or office and is bound to become a cherished family heirloom.
